The best home EV charger in Australia: an honest ranking for 2025

We install ten to fifteen different units a month. Here is the shortlist that keeps earning the recommendation, and the ones that never make it.

There is no single best home EV charger for Australia, but there is a shortlist of five or six units that consistently earn the recommendation across most Perth households. Here is what actually wins, and why.

1. Tesla Wall Connector Gen 3

The default answer for any Tesla household. Auto authentication, glass fronted, 22kW capable on three phase, and priced surprisingly reasonably at around $850 for the unit. Works with any EV that has a Type 2 socket, not just Teslas.

Weakness: no built in solar diversion. If you want a charger that automatically only draws surplus PV, look at Zappi or Wattpilot instead.

2. myenergi Zappi

The best solar aware charger on the Australian market. Three modes: Fast (grid or solar, whatever is fastest), Eco (mixes solar and grid), Eco+ (solar surplus only, waits for the sun). British designed, well built.

Weakness: the app takes a week to master. Once it clicks, you never think about it again.

3. Wallbox Pulsar Plus

The smallest smart charger on sale in Australia and still one of the most capable. Bluetooth, wifi, load management, and a black or white finish that actually suits a modern home. Excellent choice for a compact garage or a rendered outdoor wall.

4. Fronius Wattpilot

The natural pairing for any home with Fronius solar. Talks directly to a Fronius inverter, does solar surplus charging brilliantly, and available in tethered or plug in versions.

5. Ocular LTE

Australian designed, matte finish, and the cleanest tethered install we do. Excellent build quality, fair pricing, and the local support that matters when something needs firmware attention two years in.

What we do not install any more

Unbranded imports from marketplace sites. No RCM mark, no local warranty, no firmware updates. We have stopped taking these on because the callback rate in the second summer is punishing for the customer.
