Three things we check before quoting 7kW
Count the incoming actives
Lift the switchboard cover. One thick incoming active is single phase, three means you already have three phase. Send us a photo and we will tell you in a minute.
Check what else runs at night
Ducted aircon, an electric hot water unit and an oven together can take most of a 63 amp main. That is where load management earns its keep.
Older boards need RCD work
Ceramic fuses and no RCD protection means the board needs bringing up to current requirements before a new circuit goes on it. Better protection for the whole house, not just the charger.

How fast does a 7kW charger charge an electric car?+
Around 40km of range per hour on a typical mid size EV. Overnight on an eight hour off peak window that is roughly 300km put back into the battery, which is more than most Perth drivers use in a week.
Is 7kW enough for my EV?+
For the vast majority of homes, yes. The average Perth commute is well under 60km a day, so a 7kW charger tops that up in under two hours. You only really need more when two EVs share one charger, when you drive 200km plus most days, or when you want to soak up a big midday solar surplus quickly.
What is the difference between 7kW and 22kW charging?+
7kW is single phase at 32 amps. 22kW is three phase at 32 amps, so about three times the speed. Two catches: your home needs three phase supply, and your car needs a three phase onboard charger. Plenty of EVs cap at 11kW on AC, so a 22kW unit will still only deliver 11kW to them.
