EV charger installation in Cottesloe.
Coastal limestone homes, salt in the air, and a lot of EV drivers who want the install done properly the first time.
The install
What a Cottesloe install actually looks like
Most of Cottesloe west of Stirling Highway is limestone, jarrah trim and terracotta tile. Some homes have been extended two or three times over. That means the switchboard you inherit is often the original from a renovation twenty years ago, sitting near a laundry or a side path, and it is usually the first thing that has to change before a charger is safe to add.
Cable runs here are rarely short. Garages tend to sit at the back of the block, the switchboard sits at the front, and there is often a section of external limestone wall in between. We run in UV rated conduit, we bracket every metre, and we terminate into a weatherproof isolator right next to the charger so you can kill power to it without pulling the main.
The salt air is the other Cottesloe reality. Cheap brass fittings pit within a year here. Every screw, gland and lug we use in Cottesloe is marine grade stainless or coated for coastal exposure. It costs a little more per install and it is the reason your charger still looks new in five years.

Charger picks
Which charger suits a Cottesloe home
myenergi Zappi GLO
Solar diverting, quiet, and the sealed housing handles the salt air. Best pick for the majority of Cottesloe homes that already have PV.
Tesla Wall Connector Gen 3
If you drive a Tesla and you do not care about solar routing, the Wall Connector is the cleanest looking option and the fastest to commission.
Fronius Wattpilot Home 22
For the newer Cottesloe builds with three phase, the Wattpilot gives you 22kW headroom without changing chargers when you upgrade the car.

Solar first
Solar first, then the car
Cottesloe has heavy solar penetration. Around two thirds of the homes we visit here already have 6.6kW or larger PV, and about a third are running batteries as well. That changes the recommendation completely.
If your system is exporting to the grid at 3c per kWh, sending that same energy into the car is worth roughly ten times more. A solar diverting charger like the Zappi pays for the difference in under two years for most Cottesloe drivers we quote.

What to know before install day in Cottesloe
- Heritage overlays apply to a chunk of the older streets. Anything visible from the road needs to be sensitive. We recommend colour matching the conduit or running it inside the roof cavity where possible.
- Some Cottesloe homes still have 63A single phase mains. If you want anything faster than 7kW you will need a supply upgrade through Western Power, which we can coordinate.
- Beachside driveways with crushed limestone often have no viable path for a subterranean cable. Overhead runs are cleaner and easier to inspect later.
Cottesloe EV charging questions
Do I need three phase for a charger in Cottesloe?+
No. Single phase 7kW is plenty for most Cottesloe drivers doing under 300km a week. Three phase makes sense if you plan to add a second car or you want future proofing for a bigger battery vehicle.
Will the charger cope with the salt air?+
Only if the installer picks the right one and uses coastal grade hardware. We only quote chargers with sealed IP65 or better housings for Cottesloe, and we use stainless fasteners throughout.
How long does a typical Cottesloe install take?+
Half a day if the switchboard is modern. A full day if the switchboard has to be replaced first. Almost always finished the same day.
