WA incentives

Where the money actually is in Western Australia

Synergy EV time of use plans

A cheap overnight window and a second cheap window in the middle of the day built around WA's solar surplus. Shifting your charging into those windows is the single biggest saving available in Perth right now.

Charge off your own solar

WA feed in tariffs are low, so exporting midday solar earns very little. A solar aware charger pushes that surplus into the car instead. On a typical 250km week that is the difference between about $5 and a few cents per 100km.

No WA home charger rebate

We will not quote you a rebate that does not exist. WA has no state rebate on home charger installs and the vehicle rebate scheme has closed. Some novated lease and business fleet arrangements do have tax treatment worth asking your accountant about.

Cost FAQ

EV charger installation cost in Perth, answered

How much does EV charger installation cost in Perth?+

Most Perth homes land between $1,350 and $2,400 supplied and installed, GST included. A basic 7kW unit on a modern switchboard sitting close to the car is the bottom of that range. A solar aware charger such as a myenergi Zappi or Fronius Wattpilot with a 15 to 20 metre cable run sits around $1,900 to $2,400. Three phase 11kW or 22kW jobs, board upgrades and long trenched runs push past $2,800.

What makes one Perth install cost more than another?+

Four things move the number. Cable distance from the switchboard to the parking spot, whether the board has a spare way or needs upgrading, whether anything has to be crossed such as a paved driveway, and the charger itself. Everything else, the testing, the certificate, the app setup, is the same on every job.

How long does an EV charger installation take?+

Three to five hours on site for a standard single phase install, with the power off for one to two hours of that. Add a couple of hours for a switchboard upgrade and most of a day if we are trenching under paving or running three phase. You get a walkthrough of the app and charging schedule before we leave.

Is the charger included in the installation price?+

Yes. Our prices are supply and install, so the unit, the dedicated circuit, the correct type of RCD, mounting, testing and the electrical certificate are all in the one figure. If you already own a charger we install it and price the labour and materials only.

Are there rebates or incentives for a home EV charger in WA?+

There is no WA state rebate on home charger installs right now, and the vehicle rebate scheme has closed. The money is in the tariff. Synergy's EV time of use plans give you a cheap overnight window and a cheap midday window, and charging off your own solar instead of exporting it for a few cents is worth far more than a one off rebate would be.

Can I claim an EV charger on tax in Australia?+

If the car is used for business, a portion of the charging cost and sometimes the install can be deductible, and businesses installing chargers for fleet or staff have their own deductions and depreciation rules. We are electricians, not accountants, so get it confirmed by yours. We supply a proper tax invoice either way.

Is a cheap EV charger install worth it?+

Watch for what is left out. The common shortcuts are an undersized cable that limits you later, a shared circuit rather than a dedicated one, no load management on a tight supply, and no certificate of compliance. Those come back as a failed insurance claim or a second visit. Ask any quote whether the price is final and what the RCD type is.

Do you charge for the quote or the site visit?+

No. The online estimate is free and instant, and the consult to confirm details is free too. Once we have seen photos of your switchboard and parking spot the price is fixed. We do not add extras on the day.

What does a switchboard upgrade add to the cost?+

Between about $350 and $750 if we just need a sub board or to rearrange a full board, and $850 to $1,600 for an older board with ceramic fuses that needs bringing up to current RCD requirements. It is not wasted money, it protects the whole house, not just the charger circuit.

How much does it cost to run an EV charger in Perth?+

Roughly 16kWh per 100km. On a peak grid rate around 32c that is about $5 per 100km. On an off peak EV window nearer 8c it is about $1.30, and straight off your own rooftop solar it is effectively a few cents. Compare that with about $17 per 100km in a petrol car at current Perth pump prices.

What can I say. Very professional and in a timely manner. I would advise everybody getting an EV Charger installed to use Mark. My daughter is over the moon with the install and the walkthrough afterwards.
