WA Battery Rebate · 2026

The WA battery rebate,explained plainly.

Two rebates stack in Western Australia right now, and together they knock around $5,000 off a typical 10kWh home battery. Here is exactly what you get, who qualifies and how it lands on your quote.

The stack

Two rebates, one battery.

The state and federal schemes are separate, and you can claim both on the same battery.

WA Residential Battery Scheme

$1,300
Synergy customers, max
$3,800
Horizon Power customers, max
  • Maximum is based on 10kWh usable capacity
  • Battery must be new, 5kWh or more, and VPP-capable
  • You must join a Virtual Power Plant with your retailer
  • Applied upfront by your accredited vendor, not claimed back later

Federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program

Around 30% off
Upfront subsidy, scales with battery size
  • Applies to batteries up to 100kWh
  • Subsidy reduced for systems over 14kWh from May 2026
  • Rate steps down every six months, so earlier is better
  • Stacks with the WA rebate on the same battery

A worked example: a 10kWh battery in the Synergy area typically attracts the full $1,300 WA rebate plus the federal subsidy, for around $5,000 off the installed price. Bigger batteries keep earning the federal subsidy beyond 10kWh.

How to claim

Four steps, and we handle the paperwork.

01

Check eligibility

You need to be a WA resident over 18, a Synergy or Horizon Power customer, and installing at a residential property in WA.

02

Choose an approved battery

At least 5kWh usable, VPP-capable and on the CEC approved list plus your retailer's Supported Solutions List. We only quote qualifying gear.

03

Use an accredited vendor

The install must be done by a vendor on the Plenti directory. Your vendor lodges the rebate application for you.

04

Rebate comes off upfront

The discount is applied to your quote before you pay. Combined with the federal rebate, most Perth homes save around $5,000 on a 10kWh system.

Households earning under $210,000 combined can also access a no-interest loan of up to $10,000 through the scheme, on top of the rebate.

FAQ

WA battery rebate questions

How much is the WA battery rebate in 2026?+

The WA Residential Battery Scheme pays up to $1,300 for Synergy customers and up to $3,800 for Horizon Power customers, based on a 10kWh usable capacity. On top of that, the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program cuts roughly 30% off the upfront cost. A 10kWh battery in Perth typically attracts around $5,000 in combined rebates.

Do I apply for the rebate myself?+

No. Your accredited battery vendor applies on your behalf through Plenti, the scheme administrator, and the rebate comes off your quote as an upfront discount. You never pay full price and claim it back.

What is the VPP requirement?+

To get the WA rebate you must participate in a Virtual Power Plant product offered by Synergy or Horizon Power. In practice that means your retailer can draw small amounts from your battery during grid events, and you are compensated for it. We set this up with you at handover.

Which batteries qualify?+

The battery must be new, VPP-capable, at least 5kWh usable capacity, on the Clean Energy Council approved list, and on the Synergy or Horizon Power Supported Solutions List. Every battery we install, including Tesla Powerwall 3, Sigenergy, Alpha ESS, GoodWe and Fox ESS, is selected to qualify.

Can I get the rebate on an existing solar system?+

Yes. Batteries can be added to existing solar, though some older systems need a small reconfiguration or additional equipment to comply. We check compatibility during the consultation before anything is quoted.

I already installed a battery. Can I claim the rebate?+

Unfortunately no. Batteries installed before 1 July 2025 are not eligible, and the rebate cannot be applied retrospectively. It must be arranged by your vendor before installation.

What about the no-interest loan?+

Households with a combined annual income under $210,000 can also access a no-interest loan of up to $10,000 through the WA scheme, on top of the rebate. Repayment terms are set by the scheme administrator.

How long will the rebate last?+

The WA scheme runs until 100,000 rebates are distributed, and the WA Government expected it to remain available into 2027. The federal program steps down over time, with reduced subsidy rates for larger batteries from May 2026. Earlier installs lock in the better rate.
